Due to the Coronavirus situation we did not have a meeting in April. This was the last Meeting of 2019 and we look forward to 2020.

There is no meeting in January, although I will produce a newsletter, and our first meeting of 2020 will be on February 12th and will be, as always, at the Oasis Christian Centre, Plymouth Road, beginning at 2.00pm.

The presentation at the meeting will be ‘Stories from the Archives’ using examples of sources for our local region and Redditch, given by a speaker from the Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service.

This newsletter replaces Redditch History Matters, which was produced and distributed from August 2011 to April 2019.

We plan to produce an annual journal of extensive articles on Redditch History in the first quarter of each year. Our next Meeting at the Oasis Christian Centre is on Monday 9th September beginning at 2.00 pm.

The presentation is entitled ‘A walk around Eastern Redditch using a 1903 OS map’ and is given by me, Tony Green.

The walk route is split into six sections. At the beginning of each section there is a video clip of how it looks today and this is followed by historic images of how it looked around the time of the map.

Our next Meeting at the Oasis Christian Centre is on Monday 12th August beginning at 2.00 pm.

The presentation is entitled ‘Story of the Royal Enfield and the men who made it’ and is given by John Budgen who is the Chairman of the Midland Group of the Royal Enfield Owners Club.

John has been supportive of Royal Enfield activities in Redditch with events at Forge Mill Needle Museum, Church Green  and Arrow Valley Visitor Centre and is heavily involved in may other activities in Redditch. His talk is based upon the people who made the Royal Enfield and he has an enviable knowledge of the range of motorcycles produce by this iconic brand.

This is a ‘must see’ talk by anyone interested in the Royal Enfield Motorcycle Company.
